Raychem Medium Voltage Fusion Tape

TE Connectivity’s (TE) Raychem Medium Voltage Fusion Tapes are self-amalgamating, providing insulation enhancement and protection against accidentally induced discharge. The design aims to combine the integrity of silicone polymers with the versatility of wraparound products.

Our Raychem MVFT tapes are quick and easy to install. When applied, the tapes amalgamate the overlapped layers, producing a complete seal. A single MVFT layer, two-thirds overlapped, will provide AC voltage withstand (flashover protection) to at least 15 kV, increasing to 35 kV if a second layer is applied. Although the tapes will stick to themselves and other insulating materials, they will not adhere to metal or porcelain, for easy removal and maintenance.

Our Raychem MVFT tapes offer a simple and effective solution to the challenges of retrofit insulation of busbars, particularly where existing equipment cannot be dismantled. They can be used for indoor and outdoor applications and installed on different shapes, including complex connections.

Voltage Rating: AC voltage withstand (flashover protection) at least 15 kV for single layer (2/3 overlap) and 35 kV for two layers.

Application: Self-amalgamating fusion tape for retrofit insulation enhancement, flashover protection, and sealing of busbars, overhead power networks, substations, and data center power systems.

Material: Non-tracking silicone polymer (self-amalgamating, sticks to itself and insulating materials, does not adhere to metal/porcelain for easy removal).

Mechanical Strength: Tensile strength > 1,000 psi (6.8 MPa) min. (after 168 hrs at 150°C) | Ultimate elongation > 450% min. (per ASTM D412).

Electrical Strength: Dielectric strength > 160 kV/cm (400 V/mil) at 0.76 mm thickness (per ASTM D149) | Tracking & erosion resistance: No tracking, erosion to top surface, or flame failure after step voltage testing up to 3.25 kV (per ASTM D2303).

Thermal & Environmental: Continuous operating temperature up to 90°C | No deformation/splitting at 130°C (30-day load cycling) | Low temp flexibility: No cracking after 4 hrs at -40°C | Installable at 0°C without difficulty.
