Raychem Polymeric and Porcelain Rigid Red Guano Shields RRGS

TE Connectivity’s (TE) Raychem Rigid Red Guano Shield (RRGS) protects against bird streamer caused outages. The unique shield design provides protection from fecal and other soluable contaminates coming from above the insulator string.

Fast and Versatile Installation
The RRGS two - piece shield design attaches easily with plastic bolts and nuts around the top of the insulator. TE manufactures designs for both porcelain, glass, polymeric and silicone insulator strings and available in both 450mm (18") and 600mm (24") diameter shield designs.

High Performance Material
Superior TE’s Raychem high-voltage outdoor materials are used in the RRGS shield design. The rugged, non-tracking, UV-resistant, high temperature polymer ensures long-term performance even in extreme environmental conditions.

Technical Specifications

Application: Protective shield designed to prevent phase-to-ground flashovers and outages caused by bird streamers (fecal and soluble contaminants falling from above insulator strings).

Insulator Compatibility: Suitable for porcelain, glass, polymeric, and silicone insulator strings/bushings.

Material: Rugged, non-tracking, UV-resistant, high-temperature, chemical-resistant polymer.

Mechanical Strength: Bolted two-piece design with plastic bolts and nuts for wind resistance | Tensile strength 17 MPa min. (2450 psi min.) per ASTM D2628 | Ultimate elongation 25% min. per ASTM D2628.

Electrical Strength: Tracking and erosion resistance: No tracking, erosion to top surface, or flame failure after step voltage testing up to 3.25 kV per ASTM D2303.
