Raychem Bus Insulators Animal Guard BISG-24

TE Connectivity’s (TE) Raychem BISG-24 improved isolation guard prevents animal-caused outages in electrical substation equipment.

BISG discs have been successfully eliminating outages from squirrels, raccoons, opossums, cats and other animals in substations for years. The BISG-24 guard has been designed to provide the same great protection with added features. Its “invisible” design allows easier visibility of switch blades and other equipment components through the guard. This new design allows for easy field modifications and can be reduced by trimming along the grill ribs for tight phase-to-phase insulator applications.

Superior high voltage outdoor materials are used in the BISG-24 guard design. The rugged, non-tracking, UV-resistant polymer ensures longterm performance even in the most extreme environmental conditions.

The BISG-24 guard can be installed on energized equipment by one person. The new design incorporates a wedge device, which makes hot-stick installations on vertical and horizontal mounted insulators quick and easy

Voltage Rating: Application in medium voltage substations (tested at 14.4 kV RMS power arc).

Application: Bus insulator animal guard designed to prevent animal-caused outages (squirrels, raccoons, cats, etc.) on substation equipment.

Insulator Range: Fits insulator core diameters from 2.5 in (62 mm) through 5.0 in (125 mm).

Material & Grill Design: Rugged, non-tracking, UV-resistant polymer with an "invisible" grill design for clear visibility of switch blades and equipment components.

Mechanical Strength: Tensile strength 17 MPa min. (2450 psi min.) per ASTM D2628 | Ultimate elongation 25% min. per ASTM D2638.

Electrical Strength: Tracking & erosion resistance: No tracking, erosion to top surface, or flame failure after step voltage testing up to 3.25 kV per ASTM D2303.

Wind & Arc Withstand: Wind tunnel tested to 70 MPH for 10 min. (no dislodging) | Test current 10 kA RMS 10 cycles (no dislodging).

Installation & Field Trim: Hot-stickable wedge-driven installation on energized equipment by one person (horizontal or vertical mounting) | Overall product diameter of 24 in (600 mm) can be trimmed down to 17 in (432 mm) for tight phase-to-phase spacing.
